Rob Moshein - The Austin Wine Guy

Mondy night, home made spaghetti sauce...good pairing

January 11, 2010

Everybody needs a good Monday night Spaghetti wine for $10 right? Yr Mst Hmble & Obdt Srvt, Austin Wine Guy, stopped into my local Central Market (North Lamar here in Austin) to pick up ingrediants for a home made Bolognese sauce. Chatted with my "little bro" Andy (Well, he's much taller than I, but also much younger....) who really was hot on this Li Veli "Passamante Negroamaro di Salento '07.  $11...doable.

Light nose of black cherry and light earth. Medium palate, good viscocity, black cherry and earthiness all in balance. Enough acids to stand up to the pasta but not overly acidic. It's nice on its own as well. I like it well enough. It's a good value for the price. Am I blown away by quality for the dollar? Not so much. But I don't feel ripped off, and would buy another bottle...just not soon as I have my goal of a different wine, every day for all of 2010.

So far, I'm liking this challenge. Makes me focus every day. Makes me try a new wine every day. How bad can these things be? PS I'm avoiding the easy way out of grabbing big box grocery store wine, that's too easy. THIS challenge is about trying good wines...

 Cheers,

Rob Moshein AWG
