In the 90210 Day 2. Dinner at Vito's (which is actually in Santa Monica

March 12, 2010

The one year memorial of Dad's passing today. A sad, but nice event to dedicate the grave stone. Glorious weather. Dinner at Dad's favorite restaurant, Vito's. Seriously old school Italian. Waiters in Tuxedos, red leather booths, and a wait staff out of the Sopranos. Food Tony S would be happy to eat. I sure was! Eating at Vito's is a family comfort food event for us all.

Found the Vascosassetti Brunello di Montalcino 2003 on the wine list for $55. Not a bad deal I thought.  At first a bit musty and vegetal. Ten minutes later, that funk blew out and was replaced by wonderful earthy elegant dark fruit on both nose and palate.Clean rustic earth, cocoa, blackberry, blueberry all eleant in balance and harmony.  Again, nice layers of flavor that never get heavy. Paired well with the grilled veal chop. More reason to let good wine wait a few years and throw off some tannins and open up the flavor profile.

If you manage to stumble across this wine,

Drink this Wine!

cheers,
