Rob Moshein - The Austin Wine Guy

Grocery store wine I didn't expect to like..But DID! and $12...

February 22, 2010

Running late, asked Steve at my local HEB for an easy red, nothing challenging but good. Saw this one, he gave the nod. Le Grand Noir, (Black Sheep) GSM 2007 Minervois.  Now I tend to like Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre blends, so what the hey. Nice warmish day turning cold tonight. Need a warm red.

Nice, dark red fruit nose, spicy, smoky and meaty. Not at all heavy though. A bit of pepper, and anise. Medium bodied palate. Rich red fruits, moderate acids,  a touch of stone fruits, and a lush red fruit finish.

Not a bad effort at all for $12. Good pairing with steak, beef stew, meaty pizza, burgers, you get the idea.

Drink This Wine.

Cheers,

Rob Moshein, Austin Wine Guy
