About The Project
A wine a day for a year! Check out my reviews as I set out to taste and review a wine a day, every day, for 2010. Just mouse over and click on a day on the calendar to read that day's review.

So sometimes Grocery Store wine is no more than that....

March 04, 2010

Another fast dinner shop. Like you all, didn't want to dither over selections. Was grilling Porterhouse steak on sale ($4.47/lb!) and baked potato. Grabbed  Snoqualmie Whistle Stop Red, Cab/Merlot 2007, only $9.

Nose is bright red fruit, cocoa oaky aromas. A tad cloying. The palate not much better. More New World bright red fruits, flabby soft acids, and an overwhelming cocoa thing that obscured the fruit. A distinct copper penny flavor doesn't help much either. This red couldn't even stand up to a grilled Porterhouse.  This is much  a pity as I love the Snoqualmie Sauvignon Blanc for the price.

Overall, a general lack of character and style. Rather flabby and dull. Nothing to stand out. Nothing to recommend.

Is it bad? No. Is it good? No...It is what it is.

Don't bother with this wine.

Cheers,

Rob Moshein, Austin Wine Guy
