Austin Get Ready to RUUUMMBLE!

August 28, 2012

Who doesn't like a good Wine Throwdown? Yr Mst Hmbl & Obdt Svt sure does. So, I was very interested to see the new September events Fleming's Prime Steakhouse has in store for us.

They call it "Bottle Wars", I personally prefer "Throwdown", but the concept remains the same.  Every Friday in September, Flemings' will host a different "battle of the bottles", with 8-10 wines competing.  At only $25, that's clearly a good value and provides a really cool way to explore, experience and maybe learn more about different regions and varietals.

September 7: "Pinot Smackdown" Garnet v. A to Z, Three Saints v. MacMurray, Wilson Daniels v. Migration, Cambria v. Bell Glos. Essentially a Central Coast versus Sonoma duel.

September 14: "Battle of the Hemispheres" Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough v. Hanna Russian River, Indaba Chardonnay South Africa v. Women of the Vine Central Coast Chardonnay, Yalumba GSM Barossa v. Conundrum Red Calif., Eks Valley Merlot Blend v. Dream Tree Crush North Coast Calif., Veramonte Primus Chile v. Educated Guess Napa Valey.

September 21: "Old World vs. New World" Moet Imperial Champagne v. Schramsberg Brut Calif (a tough duel IMO), Il Borro Lamelle Chardonnay Tuscany v. Silver Chardonay Calif., Palacios La Vendimia Rioja v. Ricardo Santos Malbec Argentina, Ch. Parenchere Bordeaux v. Francis Ford Coppola Claret, Calif. (Sorry Francis, but I know the outcome of this one, it won't be pretty).

September 28: "Glass Warfare" or "is price really everything?".  Roederer Brut Anderson Valley v Mas Fi Cava Spain, Gunderloch Riesling Spatlese v. Loosen Bros. Dr. L (Get your German on German fix!), Cambria Pinot Noir v. Angeline Pinot Noir (should be interesting!), Montgras Quatro Chile v. Colby Red California, Hall Cabernet Sauvignon Napa v. Paripaso Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles (OOOHH REAL class warfare here!).

Yes Gentle Reader, should be an interesting month. Pick your fight, get a ringside seat and enjoy. Fleming's has two Austin locations, Downtown 320 East 2nd Stree, and the Domain North.

Get ready to RUUUMMBLE Austin! I'll be there!

Cheers,
Rob Moshein
