Rob Moshein - The Austin Wine Guy

Tuesday. $8. Pretty darn good stuff.

January 12, 2010

So, I stopped by my local HEB and perused the "Steve's Pick's".  My buddy Steve really has cornered the market on good wines under $10.  I grabbed this one I hadn't tried before.

Cruz de Piedra Garnacha 2008 Calatayud. $8.  I figured, what the heck? The nose is soft, clean red fruits, touch of cherry and a warm red licorice tone.  The palate is soft and lush but not heavy. Good red fresh fruits, soft acids that show up well on the finish, and a touch of fresh forest floor earthiness.  Pretty darned impressive for $8.  This one goes on the "buy this again list".  Great with almost anything you'll have on a Tuesday night: burgers, steaks, red pasta sauces, lasagna or pizza, chicken cacciatore...you get the picture.

I love finding these gems!

Cheers from Yr. Mst Hmbl & Obdt Srvt
