Rob Moshein - The Austin Wine Guy

In the 90210 Day 4. A leftover from Dinner with Paul!

March 14, 2010

One of the wines Paul brought. Guigal Hermitage 1998 in half bottle.  Rich nose, warm, earthy and dark. The palate was huge, but not heavy, layers of earth, dark fruits, meaty tones and pepper spice. Just an amazing wine in its own right. Again the nose was able to be smelled from a foot away, and the wine kept delivering with power and finesse but never heavy or flabby despite being twenty two years old! Well, that just goes to show a textbook example of what makes a great wine great.

Almost anything comperable from Napa would be dead by now, and even if not dead would never have these layers of huge flavors and good acids, and all without the crutch of too much oak! This is textbook great wine!

DRINK THIS WINE WHENEVER YOU CAN!

Cheers,

Rob Moshein, Austin Wine Guy
